A day in Austin, TX
One of my favorite perks of work is being able to travel and serve our families! Two months ago I was able to spend a few days in Austin, Texas and during my down time I played tourist and saw some of the sights!
Before leaving I did some research since I knew I only had a small window of time to visit and I wanted to make sure I saw all that I wanted to. I found some inspiration online and then got recommendations from my colleagues and of course the Uber driver! My flight into Austin ended up being delayed that Friday, so my time was a little shortened, but I took that time and went where everyone recommended - South Congress!
This was a recommendation from my Uber driver, but Oh My Goodness, was it delicious! The queso was amazing and definitely worth all the hype! I ended up picking the green chile pork taco and it was so good! I’m normally a traditionalist when it comes to my tacos - ground beef, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and sour cream, but these had such great flavor and the pork was perfectly cooked!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND the South Congress location too, since its so close to everything!
South Congress in Austin is filled with cute boutiques and shops. Sugar & Paris was hands-down my favorite. It had the most whimsical and trendy pieces and gifts. The staff was super friendly too when I had questions about a lunchbox with pink cacti on it!
The next time I visit Austin, I will definitely be stopping by to pick up cute gift ideas.
There is no such this as a trip to Austin without stopping by some murals and taking the obligatory photo! Everyone knows of the ‘Greetings from Austin,’ mural, but I saw this mural on a blog post and couldn’t wait to see it in person. I’m pretty sure I even made an audible gasp with a HUGE grin when I saw it!
100* and rising
Ya’ll, Texas is hot in the middle of August. Yes, it’s a dry heat, but 100 degrees is still 100 degrees. I made sure to spend some time by the pool at the hotel. It was probably one of the nicest hotel pools that I have ever been to. There were two different sections and an indoor pool/spa as an option for children. It was such a beautiful day; definitely worth carving a few hours out for some relaxation.
In my research, I read a lot of opinions on places to stay, but all of those recommendations were beyond my price range. A quick Travelocity search helped me find the Omni Austin at Southpark at what I thought was a good price point [about $130 before taxes]. It was located a little outside of the main parts of Austin, but since I knew I was going to Uber just about everywhere, I wasn't too worried about it. It was very well-kept, the rooms were decent sized, and I thought it worked perfectly for what I needed … and of course the pool was amazing! Definitely a good choice in my opinion.
Overall, Austin was great and is definitely on my list for whenever I have some more time to explore. It would be perfect for a fun family getaway or even a romantic anniversary trip.
